Milestones along the way

  2. 2010 – 2012

    Private Forestry and Carbon Trading Project

    A bilateral project between Tanzania and Finland demonstrated the tree growers association (TGA) model to stimulate an inclusive forest sector.

  4. 2014

    SHTGA formed

    The Southern Highlands Tree Growers Association was established as an apex body for the zone's tree growers.

  6. 2016

    SHTGA registered

    Formal registration with members drawn from 8 districts in Iringa, Njombe and Morogoro regions.

  8. 2017

    TTGAF established

    A national central body was created to bring together private commercial smallholder tree growers for a collective voice.

  10. Today

    A national platform

    TTGAF brings together 159 affiliate TGAs with 10,423 tree growers, extending commercial tree growing beyond the Southern Highlands.
